  • Though it’s considered a tree-nut by the FDA strictly for labeling purposes, it is classified as a fruit and not a botanical nut. Most people who have tree nut allergies can safely consume coconut oil as there is virtually no allergen causing nut proteins in the fruit. There is no general recommendation that people who are allergic to tree nuts should avoid coconuts. Additionally, if you haven’t heard of coconut oil’s beneficial properties, there are many, and it made it an even easier choice for us to use coconut oil to replace butter.

    Coconut oil is packed full of polyphenol and flavonoids (antioxidants) which helps to combat disease and help lower blood pressure. Because coconut oil has a high smoking point of 400 degrees F, which means when we bake the cookies, the oil is stable and will not oxidize and create harmful compounds like free radicals.

    And though coconut oil is higher in saturated fats than other oils such as olive oil, it is made up of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). You may have heard about adding MCTs in your coffee to aid in weight loss. We are not claiming that consuming coconut oil will help you to lose weight, we can solidly state that if we had to have a product with saturated fats, we want the ones with a high level of MCTs. Additionally, the lauric acid in the MTC provides antimicrobial and antifungal properties which can help fight disease-causing microorganisms such as helicobacter pylori.

  • Flax seed is a great source of dietary fiber and omega-3 fatty acids (ALA)  ALA is one of the 2 essential fatty acids you need to ingest because your body cannot produce it. ALA can help reduce inflammation and prevent cholesterol from depositing in your heart’s blood vessels by lowering total blood cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein (LDL or “bad”) cholesterol levels. Studies have also linked ALA reducing the risk of strokes as it helps to prevent blood clotting.

    Flaxseeds are also rich in phytochemicals called lignans (about 75-800 times more lignans than other plants). Lignans are plant-based compounds that may have potent cancer-fighting properties and may lower the risk of breast cancer, colorectal, skin, blood and lung cancers.

    Flax seeds contain soluble and insoluble fiber. Soluble fiber absorbs water in your gut and helps slow down digestion time, known to help regulate blood sugar levels and lower cholesterol while insoluble fibers aid in regular bowel movement as well as lower cholesterol. The fiber binds to bile salts before being excreted. Your body replenishes these bile salts by pulling cholesterol from your blood into your liver, resulting in lower cholesterol.

    The nutrients in flaxseed oil break down at 350 degrees F which means its benefits are not destroyed by baking.

  • Our locally sourced brown sugar is non-gmo and made with pure cane sugar and not beets. Sugar cane is one of the most energy efficient crops at converting sunlight to food to energy. Sugar cane’s carbon footprint is also impressive as it  consumes more CO2 than it takes to grow, harvest and refine. The sugar crystals we use are small, as a result, there is more surface area to retain moisture, which makes for a chewier, more moist cookie.

  • The  belgium dark chocolate we selected for the Mother Chunker is more than just delicious, the brand embraces social responsibility practices by participating the in Cocoa Horizons program and observing Sustainable cocoa guidelines, which is defined as meeting the needs of the present demand of the chocolate industry supply chain without compromising the ability of future generation to meet their own needs by ensuring a diverse environment and supporting the farming communities ( Source: United Nations)

    When you eat our cookies, be rest assured that others in our supply chain are not being economically and socially harmed but rather nurtured, and our environment is taken into account such as climate change and deforestation issues. We support the brands and manufacturers that are committed to sustainability and responsible practices.

  • We use our proprietary blend of gluten-free flour we call #19 because it was the 19th recipe blend that transformed  the cookie dough from acceptable to exceptional. The blend of rice, potato and tapioca flours give it the right balance of chewy to crunchy texture.

LOWER SUGAR

Our cookies contain roughly half the amount of sugar you will find in other chocolate chip cookies. Why? Because we realized there is way to  much sugar in most cookies. Understanding that sugar is a drug and drugs are addictive, our goal was to not create yet another product that says it’s healthy but really addictive and bad for you. We get it, sometimes you just need that sweet something to make sure feel better. But you don’t need to overflood your system with too much sugar. enjoy our cookies without the massive sugar spike, but with all the taste

Did you know that approx. 2 students in each classroom has a food allergy?

We live in times where being a parent has never been more challenging. Once upon a time, parents didn’t have to worry that the items they packed for their kids could potentially harm their child or another child. Today’s parent must consider the items they provide for their kids whether a school lunch, treats for a class party or even a party at home, could cause unintended harm to others. 

Packing a treat in your child’s lunch shouldn’t be a life and death decision. Food allergies can range from mild to life-threatening, Mother Chunker takes the gamble out of packing treats for your child. Not only will your child be able to enjoy a delicious treat for lunch, but you won’t have to worry your child’s lunch might harm others. You can eat Mother Chunkers at home, school, in a carpool, on the bus, a train, boat,  or in a plane.

PLANT-BASED
